A Thriving Record Culture Hub
Unridan Street, spanning approximately 600 meters from the Cheongju Early Printing Museum to the Uncheon and Sinbong-dong Community Service Center, is a distinctive alley-style shopping district. Dominated by two-story buildings that emerged during urban development in the 1980s, it once flourished during the initial expansion of the city center. However, over time, the surrounding commercial areas experienced a gradual decline as the city center continued to grow.
Around four to five years ago, the street began its resurgence thanks to an urban regeneration project that introduced workshops and cafés centered around record culture. This transformation has breathed new life into Unridan Street.
Additionally, with the establishment of governance by Cheongju and the presence of the Cheongju Early Printing Museum, the street has hosted various cultural events such as flea markets, busking performances, and talk shows. These events leverage the rich resources related to recording cultural heritage, and have fostered the creation of a new cultural hotspot that resonates with all generations.
Harmonious Blend of Past and Present
Unridan Street has risen to prominence as a bustling hub featuring over 60 cafés, charming vintage stores, workshops, and restaurants.
Each establishment offers unique programs, including stamp tours that allow visitors to immerse themselves in the recording culture. These activities provide visitors with special opportunities to indulge in cultural experiences and soak in the street's distinctive ambience.
As you stroll along the street, you'll find an array of newly opened cafés, bakeries, and workshops set amidst historic buildings and traditional houses. This street has evolved into a trendsetting icon where the past, present, history, and culture seamlessly coexist.
