A European-style Village Located East of Anyang
Dongpyeon Village in Dongan-gu, Gyeonggi-do, is a plain village located on the outskirt of a new town. However, take one step into the village, and you’ll feel like you’re in a small European city. It’s a hot place to go for a romantic trip or to relax with a cup of coffee.
From a Quiet Suburban Village to the Hottest Street!
In Dongpyeon Village, which used to be the rural village Gwanyang 1-dong in Anyang-si, a lot of green areas were created after development was completed in 2012. The increased green area prompted more residents to go for walks and more and more restaurants and unique cafés opened, so people started to call this village on the outskirts of a new town the Dongpyeon Village Café Street.
Upon passing through the entrance of Dongpyeon Village, you will see an octagon pavilion with a stream next to it. From the large sign of Dongpyeon Village Café Street, go further inside along the cherry blossom street and you will find 10 or more old pine trees and a stone marker indicating Old Site of Ganchon, Dongpyeon and Burimmal Village. This is where Dongpyeon Village Café Street starts.
Filming Location for Guardian: The Lonely and Great God
On Dongpyeon Village Café Street, you can find green grass, trails and European-style cafés along a well-built city road. Cafés and restaurants with interiors full of character, colorful walls and windows, pretty signs and unique atmosphere are beginning to open. There are now more than 150 cafés and shops on this romantic street.
They include a brunch café with a stylish interior that roasts its own beans and offers fruit teas made with high-quality ingredients, and a bakery where people line up to buy bread.
Dongpyeon Village Café Street is also famous for its association with the drama Guardian: The Lonely and Great God. The bus stop on the café street where the female protagonist put the scarf on the male protagonist, and the iron gate of the flower shop where the guardian saw off his bride on her way to take the college entrance examination can still be found at Dongpyeon Village.
